Random Things to Draw Generator

The hardest part of drawing is often deciding what to draw. The Random Things to Draw Generator removes that decision: press Generate and get a prompt, from a simple cup of coffee to a vampire at the dentist.

Two kinds of ideas

Drawing prompts are 125 hand-picked ideas in six categories:

  • Easy (beginners) – everyday objects and simple shapes.
  • Animals – foxes in the snow, axolotls, otters holding hands and crows with shiny rings.
  • People & characters – self-portraits, dancers mid-spin, detectives in the rain.
  • Places & scenes – your bedroom from the doorway, a laundromat, a rooftop at night.
  • Fantasy & sci-fi – sleeping dragons, robots watering flowers, giant turtles carrying towns.
  • Art challenges – one continuous line, your non-dominant hand, only three colors.

Silly combos mix a subject, an action and a place, like "a sloth knitting a scarf on a pirate ship". They are perfect for character design, cartoons and warm-ups with friends.

Tips for better practice

Time-box it. Five-minute sketches build observation; one-hour pieces build finish. Alternate between them.

Use references. Even for a fantasy prompt, look up real animals, fabrics or buildings. Good invention is built on observation.

Repeat prompts. Drawing the same subject a week later is the clearest way to see your progress.

Draw with friends. Everyone draws the same random prompt for ten minutes, then compares. It is fun to see how differently people interpret one idea.

How to use

Choose Drawing prompts or Silly combo, pick a category if you like, set how many ideas you want and press Generate. No repeats keeps the list unique, and you can copy or download it to keep a drawing challenge list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose the Easy category: everyday objects such as a cup of coffee, a cactus or a stack of books teach shape, proportion and shading without complex anatomy.

Combos join a subject, an action and a place, for example 'A penguin doing yoga in a snow globe'. There are thousands of combinations, and they are great for character design practice.

Generate a list of 30 prompts with No repeats on, and draw one a day for 15 minutes. Consistency matters more than finishing every piece.
