Ways to use it
Drawing practice. Artists use random animals as daily sketch prompts. Roll one animal and draw it in three poses, or roll two and draw them meeting.
Classroom activities. Teachers can generate a list for research reports, habitat sorting games or a quick "describe it without saying its name" round.
Party and family games. Charades, twenty questions and Pictionary all need a steady supply of animals – this tool never runs dry.
Writing prompts. Give a story character an animal companion, or write a fable around a randomly chosen animal and the lesson it teaches.
Spirit animal fun. Press Generate once and treat the result as your animal of the day.
How to use
Choose a type or keep All, set how many animals you want and press Generate. Use Starts with to filter by first letter and keep No repeats on for a list without duplicates. The result can be copied or downloaded as a text file. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many animals are in the list?
About 150 animals in five groups: land mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, sea life, and insects and bugs. Each group mixes famous animals like the lion with lesser-known ones like the axolotl or the anglerfish.
Can I get only animals that start with a certain letter?
Yes. Type a letter in Starts with – handy for alphabet games like 'an animal for every letter' or for the category round in Scattergories.
Is every animal in the list real?
Yes. Every entry is a real living animal species or a common animal name. Mythical creatures live in the Random Monster Generator instead.
Can I combine two random animals?
Use the Animal Fusion Generator – it picks two animals and creates a hybrid name and description, such as a Liagle with the head of a lion and the body of an eagle.
