Word games such as Scattergories, Stadt-Land-Fluss, Boggle-style challenges and "I spy" all start with a random letter. Use the Scrabble rack preset to draw seven letters, or Shuffle A–Z for a random order of the entire alphabet – ideal for turn order or a letter-of-the-day schedule.

For learning and teaching

Teachers use random letters for phonics practice, handwriting drills and alphabet games for young children. Choose vowels or consonants to focus on particular sounds, or add letters of another language in Custom letters, for example the Turkish Ç, Ğ, İ, Ö, Ş and Ü or the Spanish Ñ.

Fair picks

Each letter in the chosen set has exactly the same chance of being drawn. Randomness comes from the secure crypto.getRandomValues function in your browser, so there is no hidden bias toward common letters.
