Random City Generator
Random real cities from every continent and every US state.
Random City Generator
Spin the globe without the globe. The random city generator picks real cities from around the world or from a single US state. Show the country (or state abbreviation) next to each city, or hide it for a guessing game.

What people use it for
- Travel inspiration – pick a destination for your next holiday or a virtual city walk on Street View.
- Writing prompts – set your next short story, game level or role-play session in a random city.
- Geography games – turn off Show country, generate five cities and guess the country of each.
- Test data – fill a location field with real place names instead of "City 1, City 2".
- Learning languages – pick a city and research how locals greet each other or what to order for breakfast.
Fair and private
All cities have equal weight, so the result is not dominated by megacities. The selection runs entirely in your browser with a cryptographically secure random source. Need a whole country instead? Try the random country generator; for imaginary places, use the random town generator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which cities are included?
About 200 well-known world cities – capitals, big metropolitan areas and popular travel destinations on every continent – plus a list of real cities for every US state.
Can I get cities from just one country?
For the United States, choose United States and pick a state. For other countries, pick the continent; a per-country filter is not available yet.
Can I use it to choose a travel destination?
Yes – set How many to 1 and press Generate until something sparks your interest. Many people use the generator for travel bingo or "spin the globe" weekend plans.
Are the cities weighted by population?
No. Every city in the selected list has the same chance, so smaller destinations such as Hobart or Cusco appear as often as Tokyo or New York.
