Random Monster Generator
Original monsters and folklore creatures for stories, games and art.
Random Monster Generator
The Random Monster Generator invents original monsters for stories, games and drawing – or draws classic monsters from world folklore. An original monster looks like this: Vorathul, the wraith of sunken crypts – has a crown of bones; drains memories. Weakness: salt.
Original monsters
Each monster gets a guttural invented name, a kind and a lair, plus an optional look, a special ability and a weakness. Choose a kind to theme your monsters:
- Beast – hounds, stalkers and behemoths of dark forests and frozen tundra.
- Undead – wraiths, ghouls, liches and banshees of graveyards and crypts.
- Swamp – lurkers, slimes and bog horrors of misty marshes.
- Sea – serpents, krakens and sirens of the deep ocean.
- Construct – golems, automatons and living statues of ancient temples.
- Shadow – shades, mimics and dream eaters hiding under the bed.
- Elemental – fire drakes, storm spirits and sand wyrms.
Folklore & myth
Switch to Folklore & myth to draw real legendary creatures from around the world, from the Greek Minotaur and Medusa to the Japanese Kitsune, the Filipino Aswang and the Australian Bunyip. It's a great way to discover monsters beyond vampires and werewolves.
Ideas
Tabletop RPGs. Game masters can roll a monster for the next encounter and turn its ability and weakness into game mechanics.
Creative writing. A monster with a strange weakness – kindness, a single rose, its own reflection – is a ready-made plot.
Drawing and Inktober. Roll a monster a day and design it from the description.
Halloween. Use the generator for costume ideas, haunted-house themes or spooky story nights.
How to use

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the original monsters from any game?
No. Original mode invents a new name and combines a kind, a lair, a look, an ability and a weakness, so you get fresh creatures that aren't copied from any game or book.
Which folklore monsters are included?
Around 40 creatures from myths and legends worldwide – the Wendigo, Kappa, Banshee, Chupacabra, Krampus, Baba Yaga, Draugr, Bunyip and more – each with its region of origin.
Can I use the monsters in my D&D campaign?
Yes. Original monsters are a quick base for homebrew encounters: the ability suggests an attack or trait and the weakness gives players something to discover.
Can I get just a monster name?
Turn off Look, ability & weakness to get a short line with the name, kind and lair only.
