Text Formatter
Clean up spacing, punctuation, bullets and case in one pass.
Text Formatter – Clean Up and Format Text Online
Text copied from PDFs, emails, chat apps or web pages is rarely tidy: double spaces, random blank lines, spaces before commas, mixed bullet symbols. The text formatter fixes all of it in one pass. Paste your text, tick the clean-up steps you want, and copy the result.
What you can switch on or off
- Trim line edges removes spaces and tabs at the start and end of every line.
- Collapse repeated spaces turns runs of spaces into a single space.
- Merge blank lines reduces several empty lines in a row to one, keeping your paragraphs.
- Fix punctuation spacing removes spaces before commas, periods, question marks and closing brackets, and adds a space after them where it is missing ("Hi ,there" becomes "Hi, there"). Numbers like 3.5 and 1,000 are left alone.
- Normalize bullets converts •, ●, ▪, – and * list markers into a plain "-" so the list works in Markdown and plain text.
- Letter case applies sentence case, Title Case, lowercase or UPPERCASE.
- Wrap at breaks long lines at the width you set, useful for emails, commit messages and README files.
Typical uses
Prepare text for a CMS or an email, clean an OCR scan, make notes consistent before publishing, or normalise a copied list before pasting it into Markdown. The options are independent, so you can use the formatter just for wrapping or just for case changes.
Good to know
The formatter works on the text exactly as you pasted it and never sends it anywhere. If the structure of your text matters, such as code, poetry or tables, disable trimming and space collapsing first. For more specific edits, pair it with Remove Empty Lines or the Case Converter.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the text formatter fix?
It removes extra spaces and blank lines, trims line edges, fixes spacing around punctuation, converts mixed bullet symbols to a single dash, changes letter case and can wrap long lines at a width you choose.
Will it change my wording?
Only if you pick a case option. Without it, the formatter touches whitespace, punctuation spacing and bullets only; your words stay the same.
Can it format code or numbers safely?
It leaves decimals and thousands separators such as 3.5 or 1,000 alone, but it is made for prose. Turn off 'Collapse repeated spaces' and 'Trim line edges' if you paste code or aligned tables.
How does line wrapping work?
Enter a number of characters, for example 72 for email-style text. Lines longer than that break at spaces. Words longer than the limit are kept whole instead of being cut.
