Corrupted Text Generator
Make your text look like it came out of a damaged hard drive. The corrupted text generator replaces some letters with look-alike symbols, inserts damaged-data blocks such as ▓ ▒ ░ and adds light noise marks, so a sentence like "The archive file cannot be opened" turns into "Th€ ar¢hiv▒ fil3 cann0t be op€ned". Copy it into stories, ARGs, Discord roleplay or video titles.
Variants
- Corrupted – the main effect using your settings.
- Symbols only – letters swapped for look-alikes like @, €, ø and $ without blocks or marks, readable and leet-like.
- Severely corrupted – double corruption for text that is barely recoverable.
- Corrupted file – the result wrapped in an "[ERR0R]" tag and fading blocks.
- Corrupted terminal – monospace text with damage, like a failing console.
Settings
The corruption level slider controls how many characters are affected. Switch off damaged blocks to keep only character swaps, or noise marks to remove the combining characters. Press Regenerate to get a new random corruption pattern.
How it works
For every letter the tool rolls a seeded random number. Depending on the level, the letter can stay, be replaced by a visually similar character (for example a → α, s → §, t → †), or become a block element from the Unicode Block Elements range. Optional combining marks add small scratches. Spaces are never touched, so word shapes remain recognisable.
Storytelling tips
Corrupt only key words – a name, a date or a place – to create intrigue while the rest of the message stays readable. Combine with normal text for diary entries, recovered logs or "classified" documents.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is corrupted text?
Corrupted text imitates data that was damaged: some letters are replaced by look-alike symbols (e → €, o → ø), some by block characters like ▓ and ░, and a few get noise marks. It stays partly readable, which makes it great for mysteries and horror stories.
Is corrupted text the same as zalgo?
No. Zalgo stacks many combining marks on every letter. Corrupted text mostly swaps characters and adds only light noise, so it looks like a broken file rather than a demonic message.
Where is corrupted text used?
Alternate reality games (ARGs), creepypasta, game lore, Discord roleplay, video thumbnails and band artwork often use corrupted text to suggest lost or hacked data.
