Image Flipper — Mirror and Rotate Images

Flip an image horizontally (mirror image), vertically (upside down) or both, and rotate it in 90° steps. The preview updates immediately and you can download the result as PNG, JPG or WebP. No upload, no installation.

Common reasons to flip an image

  • Fix mirrored selfies: front cameras often save a mirror image, so writing appears backwards.
  • Design composition: a person or product facing out of the page looks better facing into the text. Mirroring the photo changes the direction of the subject's gaze.
  • Create reflections and symmetrical patterns for posters and backgrounds.
  • Iron-on transfers and t-shirt printing: transfer paper requires the design to be printed mirrored.
  • Correct scans of slides and photos that were placed the wrong way on the scanner.
  • Rotate sideways photos whose orientation tag was lost when the file was edited or uploaded.

Lossless pixel operations

Flipping and rotating by multiples of 90° are exact transformations: every pixel is moved to a new position and nothing is resampled or blurred. Rotation by 90° or 270° swaps width and height; the result size is shown above the preview. If you download as PNG, the result contains exactly the same pixels as the original, just rearranged.

Note that the transformation is applied to the pixels themselves. Some photos also have an EXIF orientation tag; you can check it with the Image Metadata Viewer. After processing here, the downloaded file has no such tag, so it will look the same in every app.

Frequently Asked Questions

A horizontal flip mirrors the image left to right, like looking in a mirror. A vertical flip turns it upside down top to bottom while keeping left and right. Applying both is the same as rotating by 180°.

Many phone front cameras save a mirrored image so it matches the preview you saw. Text on shirts and signs then reads backwards. A horizontal flip fixes it.

No. Flips and 90° rotations only move pixels around, so no detail is lost. Save as PNG for an exact copy; JPG re-encodes the image with slight compression.
