YAML Converter – YAML to JSON, XML, CSV, HTML & TOML

The YAML converter is a single workspace for turning YAML into every common data format. Paste a YAML document once, then flip between JSON, XML, CSV / TSV, HTML table, and TOML to find the representation your next tool needs. It is handy when a config written in YAML has to feed an API, a spreadsheet, a report, or a Rust or Python project that prefers TOML.

Formats at a glance

  • JSON – a lossless copy of the data with 2 or 4 spaces, tabs, or minified. Best for APIs and JavaScript.
  • XML – mappings become elements; sequences repeat the parent element name, and nameless list items use the List item element name. Set the root element name and toggle the <?xml … ?> declaration.
  • CSV / TSV – records are laid out as rows. Choose comma, semicolon, tab, or pipe and whether to include a header line. Fields containing the delimiter, quotes, or line breaks are quoted automatically.
  • HTML table – a clean <table> with <thead> and <tbody>, shown in a live preview so you can check it before pasting it into a CMS or email.
  • TOML – mappings become [tables], lists of mappings become [[arrays of tables]].

From tree to table

YAML is hierarchical while CSV and HTML are flat. The converter finds the repeated records automatically, flattens nested keys into dot-separated column names, and shows the resulting table below the editors. If the preview is not what you expected, the YAML probably wraps the records differently than you think — the YAML Parser helps you check.

YAML 1.2 semantics

Values are typed according to YAML 1.2: true/false are booleans, yes/no stay text, and quoted numbers remain strings. Anchors and aliases are expanded before conversion. Invalid YAML is reported with a line and column number.

For a single target with more options use YAML to JSON, YAML to XML, YAML to CSV, or YAML to Excel. Validate a file first with the YAML Validator.

Frequently Asked Questions

JSON, XML, CSV or TSV (any delimiter), an HTML table, and TOML. Switch between them with the buttons above the editors — the input stays the same, only the output format changes.

For CSV, TSV, and HTML the converter looks for the list of records — a top-level sequence, or the first list of mappings inside the document such as members: in the sample. Each item becomes a row, nested mappings become columns like address.city, and lists of plain values are joined with commas. Top-level scalars outside that list are not part of the table.

TOML requires a table (mapping) at the top level and has no null value. A YAML file that is a bare list, or that contains empty/null values TOML cannot express, is reported as an error instead of producing an invalid file.
