Point to PX Converter

Convert typographic points to CSS pixels. Enter 12 and get 16px; enter 10 and get 13.3333px. Points come from print and desktop publishing, so this tool is useful whenever a document, PDF spec, or brand book gives sizes in pt and you need to build them on the web.

The point to pixel formula

CSS fixes both units to the inch: 1in = 96px = 72pt. Therefore:

px = pt × 96 ÷ 72 = pt × 1.3333

Points Pixels
8pt 10.6667px
9pt 12px
10pt 13.3333px
11pt 14.6667px
12pt 16px
14pt 18.6667px
18pt 24px
24pt 32px
36pt 48px

The base font size field has no effect here – points and pixels do not depend on font size.

Worked example: a Word document to HTML

A client sends a Word template: body text in Calibri 11pt, subheadings 14pt, title 26pt. Converted, those are 14.6667px, 18.6667px, and 34.6667px. Since fractional pixels can look odd in a design system, many developers round to 15px, 19px, and 35px – or better, convert further to rem so that user font preferences are respected.

Where points still appear

  • Email clients such as Outlook, which often interpret font sizes in points.
  • Print stylesheets and PDF generators like wkhtmltopdf or Prince.
  • iOS and macOS design documents, where "points" describe layout units (a different concept from typographic points – 1 iOS point is roughly one CSS pixel).

To go straight from points to scalable units, use Point to REM. For the reverse direction, see PX to Point.

Frequently Asked Questions

In CSS, 1pt = 96 ÷ 72 = 1.3333px, because an inch is defined as 96 CSS pixels and 72 points.

12pt equals exactly 16px, the default browser font size. 9pt is 12px, 18pt is 24px, and 72pt is 96px.

No. Points and CSS pixels are both absolute CSS units with a fixed ratio. High-density screens draw each CSS pixel with more device pixels, but the ratio of 4 px to 3 pt never changes.
