What is My Zodiac Sign?
Choose your date of birth and the tool shows your Western zodiac sign immediately, together with the date range of the sign, its element, modality and ruling planet. No sign-up is needed and your birth date never leaves your browser.
How to use it
- Click the date field and enter your birthday (the year does not change the result, only the month and day matter).
- Read your sign, its symbol and a short description of the traits it is traditionally linked to.
- Check the list of all twelve signs below to see where your sign sits in the zodiac year.
The twelve signs and their dates
The zodiac year starts with Aries on March 21 and moves through Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius to end with Pisces on March 20. Each sign lasts roughly 30 days. Because the calendar and the solar year do not line up exactly, boundaries can shift by a day from year to year.
Element, modality and ruler
Every sign belongs to one of four elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water), one of three modalities (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) and has a ruling planet in traditional astrology. For example Aries is Cardinal Fire ruled by Mars, while Taurus is Fixed Earth ruled by Venus. People use these groups to talk about compatibility and temperament.
What about the cusp?
If you were born on the first or last day of a sign, astrologers say you are on the cusp. Your sign depends on the exact minute of birth and the location. If your birthday falls on one of those days, the tool lists the neighboring sign so you can look up a birth chart for a precise answer.
Sun sign versus full chart
This tool gives your Sun sign, the one most people mean by "my sign". A full birth chart also includes the Moon, rising sign and planets, which need your time and place of birth.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is my zodiac sign determined?
Your sign is the constellation band of the ecliptic that the Sun was in on your birthday, divided into twelve sections of about 30 degrees. This tool uses the standard tropical dates that most calendars and horoscope sites publish.
Why does my sign differ between websites?
The Sun moves into a new sign at a slightly different time each year, so a birthday on the boundary (for example March 20 or 21) can belong to either sign. The exact time and place of birth decide it. This tool shows a note when you are on a cusp day.
What are the four elements and three modalities?
The elements are Fire, Earth, Air and Water, each with three signs. The modalities are Cardinal (initiating), Fixed (stable) and Mutable (adaptable). Combining them gives every sign a unique pair, such as Fixed Fire for Leo.
Is the zodiac scientifically proven?
No. Studies have not found that star signs predict personality or events. Treat horoscopes as entertainment, a conversation starter and a cultural tradition rather than advice.
