How it works
The tool uses Unicode normalization (NFD) to split each letter from its combining marks, removes the marks, and then transliterates special letters such as ß, æ, œ, ø, ł, đ, þ, and the Turkish ı that cannot be decomposed. Everything happens locally in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does removing accents mean?
It converts letters with diacritics – accents, umlauts, cedillas, tildes, and similar marks – into their plain Latin base letters. For example é becomes e, ü becomes u, ç becomes c, and ñ becomes n.
How are special letters like ß, æ, or ł handled?
Letters that are not simply a base letter plus a mark are transliterated: ß becomes ss, æ becomes ae, œ becomes oe, ø becomes o, ł becomes l, đ becomes d, and the Turkish dotless ı becomes i.
Is the rest of my text changed?
No. Only accented characters are replaced. Punctuation, numbers, spacing, line breaks, and characters from non-Latin scripts are left as they are.
