HTML Meta Tag Generator
Meta tags live in the <head> of a web page. Visitors never see them directly, but search engines, social networks, browsers and messaging apps read them to decide how your page is indexed, displayed and shared. The Meta Tag Generator builds a complete, correctly escaped set of tags from a simple form and shows a search-result style preview so you can check the length of your title and description before publishing.
Tags this tool generates
<title>andmeta description– the headline and snippet shown in search results.meta keywordsandauthor– optional informational tags.meta robots– index/noindex and follow/nofollow directives.link rel="canonical"– the preferred URL for duplicate content.meta charsetandviewport– character encoding and mobile-friendly scaling.content-languageandtheme-color– language hint and the browser toolbar color on mobile.- Open Graph and Twitter Card tags – title, description, URL and image for rich link previews on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp.
Writing good titles and descriptions
Put the main topic first, keep each title unique across your site and include your brand at the end. A description should summarise the page and give a reason to click; it is not a ranking factor, but a compelling snippet improves click-through rate. Special characters such as & and quotes are escaped automatically, so the generated HTML is always valid.
Where to paste the code
Paste the tags inside <head>, ideally right after <meta charset>. In WordPress use your SEO plugin's fields or the theme header; in Next.js or other frameworks, put them in the head component. For a deeper social setup, see the Open Graph Generator; for help writing copy, try the Title & Description Generator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?
Google and Bing ignore the keywords tag for ranking, but some site search engines and internal tools still read it. It is optional; leave it empty if you prefer.
How long should the title and description be?
Aim for roughly 50–60 characters for the title and 120–160 for the description. Longer text is truncated in search results, which the preview simulates.
What does noindex, nofollow do?
noindex asks search engines not to show the page in results; nofollow asks them not to follow its links. Use them for thank-you pages, internal search results or staging sites — not for pages you want to rank.
Why add a canonical URL?
If the same content is reachable at several addresses (with tracking parameters, http/https or www/non-www), the canonical link tells search engines which version to index and consolidates ranking signals.
